2020 Census: Expect a knock on your door starting Aug 6th

The US Census Bureau will begin nonresponse follow up in Arizona on Thursday, Aug. 6.  If you have yet to complete your 2020 Census, expect a knock on your door.

To help ensure an accurate count, Census workers will be going to homes that have not yet responded to the 2020 Census.

Here's what to expect:
  • Census workers will have an ID with their photograph, a U.S. Department of Commerce watermark, and an expiration date.
  • Census workers will have an official bag and Census Bureau-issued electronic device, such as a laptop or smartphone, bearing the Census Bureau logo.
  • Census takers and field representatives will conduct their work between the hours of 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., local time.
  • Census workers will not ask to enter homes. Questions will focus on the demographics of individuals living in the home (name, age, gender, ethnicity, etc.). View the sample Census form below.
  • Census workers will never ask for money, social security numbers, bank/credit card information or anything on behalf of a political party.
  • If you have questions about a Census worker, you can call the Regional Census office at 972-510-1800.
  • To report suspicious behavior, call the Pinal County Sheriff's Office non-emergency number at 520-866-5111. In an emergency, please call 9-1-1.
  • For questions about responding to the 2020 Census, call the hotline at 844-330-2020.

Additionally, Census workers will wear face coverings and follow public health guidelines when they visit your home. All Census workers complete a virtual COVID-19 training on physical distancing and other health and safety protocols before beginning their work in neighborhoods.

If a Census worker comes to your home when you are not there, they will leave a note with information about how to respond online, by phone or by mail. The deadline to respond to the Census is Sept. 30, 2020.

To avoid a knock on your door, complete the 2020 Census today by visiting My2020Census.gov. Less than 10 minutes today impacts our San Tan Valley community for the next 10 years.
